Nobody beats Lomachenko – nobody.
I’ve been in the ring with the man, he’s smart, he has so many different tactics that I never even thought of being possible.
You got to understand that when Lomachenko has a subpar performance, he usually comes back with a vengeance. When he lost to [Orlando] Salido, he came back and dominated Gary Russell Jr. Think about that. Then he had a subpar performance against Teo [Lopez Jr]. He came back and dominated [Masayoshi] Nakatani. He had a subpar performance against [Jamaine] Ortiz. He’s going to come back.
I’m telling you right now. Lomachenko fashion. He’s going to look to expose Haney, and I think he’s going to look to expose him late. Here’s why. Haney is a great mid-range to outside fighter. He’s great. He has fast hands, long arms, great jab, great counter-puncher, but where he lacks is inside.
As much as I love Loma, if he’s going to fight a top guy, he’d better do it right away and not wait any longer because the clock has ticked, and it’s still ticking.
The Haney-Lomachenko fight... It’ll be very interesting, but it’ll be an awfully tough fight for Loma. But you know what, it’ll be a tough fight for both guys.
Devin Haney's Strong Points
- Technical Skills
Haney is a highly technical boxer with excellent footwork and a high accuracy rate in landing punches.- Height and Reach
Haney has an advantage in height and possesses an incredible reach for a lightweight (71″ (180 cm)), which can help him control distance and keep his opponent at bay.- Weight
Haney's ability to make weight before fights is almost magical. The day after weigh-ins, he quickly recovers and appears more like a middleweight in the ring than a lightweight, thanks to his rapid recovery.- Discipline
Haney is known for his iron discipline when it comes to training and improving his boxing skills, allowing him to maintain a high pace and endurance throughout the duration of a fight.
This is also attributed to the coaching abilities of his father, William "Bill" Haney.Devin Haney's Weak Points
- Lack of Knockout Power
Haney is not a power puncher and lacks a devastating punch that could end a fight with a single blow.- Experience
Despite an impressive record (29-0-0), Haney lacks significant experience against elite opponents.Vasyl Lomachenko's Strong Points
- Experience
Despite a modest professional record (17-2-0), Lomachenko's incredible amateur background cannot be overlooked. He became a two-time Olympic champion (in 2008 and 2012).- Boxing Skills and Technique
Lomachenko is considered one of the most technical boxers of his generation. He possesses unique movements, a diverse arsenal of punches, and excellent defense.- Speed
Lomachenko is known for his aggression and ability to deliver rapid and accurate combinations.- Adaptability
Vasyl can quickly adapt to his opponent's style and tactics and use them against him.Vasyl Lomachenko's Weak Points
- Age
This year, Lomachenko turned 35, which is a solid age for a professional boxer. The only thing that keeps Lomachenko in the sport is his dream of becoming an undisputed world champion.
Will this be enough against a young, undefeated, and fast boxer with long arms?- Weight
Some experts believe that Lomachenko is undersized for the lightweight division and should have stayed in the super featherweight division (130 lbs) to pursue undisputed titles there. Their main argument is Lomachenko's unclear performance against a larger and and longer-armed Teofimo Lopez.- Injuries
It's worth noting that Lomachenko underwent shoulder surgery in 2018, and the injury resurfaced after his loss to Lopez, leading to a second operation.Prediction
The fight between Haney and Lomachenko would be a technical and tactical showdown.
Haney, utilizing his anthropometric advantages, would likely aim to keep Lomachenko at a distance and focus on quick and accurate punches.
Lomachenko, with his phenomenal boxing skills, would seek to briefly engage in close-range combat, feint, deliver combinations, and exit the danger zone to avoid counterattacks.
The bout would be full of intrigue and tactical maneuvers.
Lomachenko's virtuosity, experience, and adaptability would help him find weaknesses in Haney's style and tactics. Our prediction: Vasyl Lomachenko will win by unanimous decision (UD).
