Regis «Rougarou» Prograis
Regis Prograis is an American boxer.
As a professional athlete, Prograis has been performing for 11 years.
Regis Prograis is from New Orleans, Louisiana.
Regis "Rougarou" Prograis — [Regis "Roo Gah Roo" Pro Gray].
Originally hailing from New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina forced Regis to relocate to Houston, Texas in 2005.
Once in Houston, Prograis began training at Savannah Boxing Club alongside Evander Holyfield which was a key factor in motivating him to take boxing seriously.

Prograis took up boxing at the age of seventeen.
He fought 94 official amateur bouts, losing 7 times.
Regis "Rougarou" Prograis
Regis Prograis has one of the more exotic nicknames in boxing, taken from a mythical creature that struck fear into the hearts of Louisiana natives.
A fast and agile figure with bone-breaking power emerging from the swamplands in search of human prey. For centuries, tales of the shape-shifting, wolf-like Rougarou have terrified children and fascinated legend hunters but remained the stuff of Louisianan folklore.
It’s just a name that jumped out at me. I think I was unbeaten in about three or four fights at the time and my manager was trying to pick out nicknames.
We were going back and forth on nicknames and I think it was my daddy that said: ‘How about The Rougarou?’. After he said it, we all just said that that was the one, and it’s stuck. It’s the perfect name for me. It’s definitely the perfect name.
Born at what is now Tulane Lakeside Hospital, Regis lived most of his childhood under the close gaze of his father Vidal, who worked in information technology, and his mother Shelita, who through the years has worked at an insurance company, a cruise line and an airline.

Vidal and Shelita filed for divorce in September 2004.
They remained on friendly terms, speaking often and joking that they get along better now than they did while married.

Regis Prograis married a Brazilian woman Raquel.

Together, they have two children: one girl and one boy.

Prograis considers himself a well-rounded fighter so being able to adapt his style in the ring is an important skill — particularly for those with lofty expectations for their careers. Check out the super lightweight work on his footwork, head movement, defense, and punch selection.
Prograis attended Shooto Brazil 86 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and met up with former UFC featherweight champion José Aldo.

Don’t be surprised if I start calling out MMA fighters in about 2 years.
Prograis stormed into the pros in 2012, scoring 15 knockout victories and four unanimous decisions in his first 19 bouts.
Yet the impressive record wasn’t enough to shield him from the low pay and sleazy dealing common in the lower rungs of prizefighting.
He wasn’t paid after many of those fights. And once an organizer of a bout handed him a check for $1.
Regis framed the check. It hangs on a wall as motivation.
